I bought a 1985 corvette and it sat for around 6 years, i put a new battery in it and it has a jumper wire to bypass the alarm system. It started everday for about 2 days. Now it will not start. I smell gas in oil, found gas on spark plugs, cleaned them and put them back in. any help would be appreciated. thanxs
There is pin hole in the Fuel Pressure regulator diaphragm allowing gasoline to leak into the intake system/ or a fuel injector(s) is leaking during engine shutdown.
Replace all 8 spark plugs.
Once gasoline fouled out, spark plugs seldom ever clean up without engine misfiring or even allowing an engine to start up.
If all the plugs are wet, chances are it would be the fuel pressure regulator. You should get around 40 psi with the motor off and the key on. It should hold for a short time. If the pressure goes right down, fuel is probably leaking through the diaphram into your intake and causing the excess gas problem. As Rodj mentioned, pull the vacuum line going to the regulator. If there is fuel in the line, change the regulator or diaphram and of course the oil before starting. Might want to squirt some wd40 in the cylinders to give them some lubrication before starting.
