I put new rotors on my 92 and after about 20 miles I started hearing a clunking sound coming from the drivers side front wheel. It clunks while i'm driving and stops as soon as I tap the brakes. As long as I'm applying the brakes the noise stops.
I figured the caliper must have come loose and it's bouncing off the rotor. I check it out and nothings loose and the anti rattle clips are in place. I've taken it apart and put it back together 3 times now and each time it works fine for a few miles and then the clunking sound develops.
I can't figure this out. Do I have a caliper hanging up?
Jack the front end up. Have someone step on the brake pedal. Grab the front wheel (one at a time) and try to turn it in both directions to see if you can duplicate the problem.
Listen for anything that clunks. If you hear or feel anything then you will be able to track it down.
Dumb question, are the pads free to move but not too much?
If your talking about the pads having enough room to press against the rotor and release, yes they do.

I've tried this with no luck.

I'll have to jack her back up tomorrow and check. I don't know why but this never crossed my mind.
You changed the rotors but you did not indicate you replaced the pads. If you did not, consider putting the old rotors back on to see if the problem is still there. You might need to go back to square 1 to find the problem or for additional information.
Are you sure it is the left front and not rear or someplace else (just a thought).
If you did change the pads with the rotors, then I would NOT recommend on putting the old rotors back on.
