Default Air Conditioner Problem

I just spent $1400 to have the compressor replaced. They said they had to replace some switches, condenser, accumulator, evaporator, inlet orifice and flush all lines in the system because of metal shavings in the system (from the old fried compressor). After about 10 miles of driving, the new compressor now cycles on and off. They say there must be more metal shavings in the system clogging the switches and orifice causing them to shut the system on and off when pressure in the system rises. Any truth to this? Help!

seems like they lied about the flush, quick cycle usually means low level, take it to another shop, they should have done a complete flush for that amount of money, if thats what the issue is

Has anybody actually hooked up the gauges to check the low and high side in regard to making the statement they said.

I agree it sounds like it is low on Freon. Sounds like there is a leak somewhere.

They should fill it and check for a leak.

If they actually replaced all the stuff you listed (which is pretty much the whole system) and then they flushed the remaining 10' of hard/hose lines....chances of still having shavings in the system would be near "0". Return the car to the shop where you spent all your hard earned $1400 for them to fix/repair the system correctly since that is what you paid them to do in the first place.

You paid them to fix it, have them fix it.

These general repair shops see what they call a "firewall forward" a/c repair as a gift from God...

They just change parts and gouge the customer and most times the system works.....when it don;t its always because they were too lazy to do the job right...as in really flushing everything...

Flushing an evap is not that easy. 120 psi air blower inserted into the tube of the evap results in a slow whisper at the exit tube because there is 27 miles of vents and core inside that diffuse the air so much. Half *** flushing leaves most of the crud laying in the bottom of the evap core...Same applies to the condensor. You just about have to flood these with the solvent then use a hose to capture all the junk exiting the system. Blow air for 20 minutes to ensure that its clean and dry. They should know that....but again, a lazy tech that is looking at an easy $1500 invoice will half *** it everytime.
Take it back and make them fix it right. It may take some discussion but they need to stand behind their work...

Too many of these night school wanna be techs are just parts changers...not real mechanics that understand what and why or how. IMHO.
A/C is too easy. Its ALWAYS about being clean inside.
