My 1996 field service manual specifically states that the suspension needs to be at ride height before tighting down any of the suspension components. This includes spindle rods, trailing arms and swaybar endlinks. When I reassembled my rear suspension I did just that and I didn't have any squeaks or settling time. The car tracked straight right off the jackstands.
