Thanks for the advice. I am a novice at this. Are the modifications that you did street legal? My car is not a classic yet and still subject to motor vehicle inspections.
Purchased a 1990 Convertible a few months ago. Any advice on exhaust to put on to get good sound?
"good" sound is a relative term. what sounds good to one person doesn't necessarily sound good to another. do you want ear-piercing loud, do you want a mellow, muscle-car sound, do you care about drone, and how much money do you want to spend? my son has (either corvette central or mid-america) replacement mufflers with dual functioning tips, and after a few miles, i think it has a good muscle car sound. that's on the low end of the cost scale. on the other hand, i have a corsa cat-back system on my 96. i like the looks, the sound, the quality, etc, but i did pay a bit extra. personally, i don't like "attention getting" loud. when you ask a question about exhaust around here, you'll most likely get several dozen different opinions.
as long as your cats/emissions stuff is intact, and with the exception of some local noise restrictions, most exhaust systems or mods are street legal.
Thanks for the reply. All the different replies help. I think I am looking for muscle car sound. My dad put the cat back Flowmasters on his 87 and I think they have a good sound. I saw the Corsa cat back as well and they were a bit more expensive. I wanted to see what different people did to their cars to get an idea of what is out there.
