I recently had to replace the brake booster on my '88. I got some tips from forum posts on this and am adding info on my experience.
I got a replacment booster on eBay from an '88 Corvette. Tested it with a long vacuum hose to make sure it worked. I got the master cylinder as well but did not use it.
There are two 13mm nuts and a clip that have to be removed under the dash. I took the seat out to get a little more room. The nut on the right is quite hard to access. The nuts are at the very bottom of this picture which I took straight up with the camera. There was no way I could see them this way while working with them.
I had to use 1/4 inch extensions to get between the brake pedal and the steering column with a swival end. I also bought a set of grip-tite sockets which kept the nuts in place during removal and installation.

I found that I did not have to remove the master cylinder to get the booster out. There is enough play in the brake lines to move it out of the way.

I did have to unbolt the black support from the frame to the driver side hood latch and move it out of the way after moving the cruise control module out of the way as well.

This was not a fun job but doable. Even when the seat is removed there is very little room to work. Several times I had to take a break and come back to the job. I had to feel my way to get the clip back in and it took several attempts to do it.
nice write up, i also did one for the booster replacement with step by step pics.
on a more important note; im also interested in the carpet! in your garage? hahaa nice

I get a lot of kidding on the carpet. It's old and threadbare, but I figured it should go under the Vette instead of going to the landfill. It's also got a 6 inch hole in it when a Delco battery started leaking on it.

Yes, this is what lucky me is staring at right now out the garage. The manual doesn't mention moving that brace but it does appear to need to come out of the way. I've got everything disconnected, the old booster should come right out but for that brace.
