Default Tech question on PKE

My Passive keyless entry doesent work.I am guessing the drivers door lock actuator as it won't lock/unlock with the remote. However it will lock/unlock fine with the switch on the door.

Any suggestions for a tired lazy man whose 2 year old will not allow him to read the fsm without trying to either color it or tear it up??

I bet you can rule out the drivers dor lock actuator, since it actually works when you use the door switch.

Since your a longtime member, I will assume you really do understand how the PKE is supposed to work.
So, you do realize that the remote buttons will NEVER lock or unlock the drivers door?

The easiest thing to check, is to make sure you haven't inadvertently shut the system off.
Standing next to the drivers door, press and hold the door button.
Hold for several seconds (5-10) and see if that will cycle the locks.
If the system was off, it should now be operational again.

If the above really isn't the issue, I would next try to follow the programing instructions in the owners manual.

Now lets wait for someone like Mark to chime in, as he knows how to troubleshoot this system better than I do.

We're off to a great start with good information. If you can't here the system cycle the locks when trying to turn it back on or off, then I would check the battery in the key FOB.

Use a digital meter (DVM) and you need at least 3.0 to 3.1+ volts. Anything 2.8 or 2.9 volts will give you a bad day. Clean the battery contacts also.

It would be ideal to have a spare FOB to try.

Did you try to pop the rear hatch using the button?

If the battery is good and the system appears not to have been turned off, check the PKE lamp on the DIP for the 2 second test when the key is turned to ON. If there is no light then either the system is in sleep mode or the PKE receiver has probably gone bad.

I have never paid attention to the system as this is the first time it has malfunctioned since I have had the car.

The remote was replaced 2 years ago and we replaced the battery last week.

I don't drive the car much now as I can't but the baby seat in it(can't turn off pass air bag)and it is kind of loud for jr.

I will try the hatch and activating the system to see if it helps.I will check for the pke light as well.

I guess you guys missed the part about me being lazy.: )

Not much info to go on. Did it ever work? It might be turned off, see what it does when you try to reprogram. Try to get us a little more info to go on. I think tne guys said it all.
