The wipers on my '84 turn on just fine. The problem is getting them to turn off. I push the switch to "off" and they keep going. After spending some time sliding the switch back, and forth they finally go off. I replaced the switch, but it does the same thing. Do I need a new motor? I looked on line and found a wiper motor control cover at Ecklers. Just wondering if maybe I may need this instead of a motor. I just want to replace the right thing. Thanx for your help.
If it's both wipers at the same time then it's not a wiper motor. They operate independently. It's probably the wiper relay. It's probably sticky. Someone who still knows where there FSM is will post it's location. Recreate the problem, then give the relay a nice tap. If it stops, then the relay is sticking and you need to get a new one.
Same problem with the Audi, but the opposite. The relay won't engage.
Hey, thanx for the quick git-back! I'm new to Corvettes (this is my first one), so I have a couple questions. What is FSM, and where is this relay located? Thanx again.
I was misguided by the way. I've never really looked at the wiper system and it is just one motor. However, if the motor is broken, then it just won't move. You can get the full motor assembly from the same guy as the above part if you want to.
Had the same issue on my 93, first replaced the park switch (under the motor cover) but no love, turned out to be the cover on mine. There is a test procedure to follow in the FSM that should isolate the issue. Check Corvette Central for the part if your diagnosis points to the cover, seem to recall they had the best price when I did mine.
THis is going to sound stupid but it worked for me before I burnt the wiper motor (different story)
A friend actually suggested that the connecton for the wiper motor was getting water inside it. I pulled it apart and he was right, used some "dylectric grease" in the connection and never happened again.
Apparently, the water/moisture got inside the conection and continued the "run" feature for the wipers, even when I switched to park....
