i have a 1989 and my check engine light came on with a 36 i replaced both maf relays then i got a 33 34 and 36 so i put a micro tech maf on and still got a 34 and now it seems to run worse the micro tech maf instructions said if after replaceing the maf and you still had a 33 or 34 that the prom may be bad does this sound right?

Not too likely the prom has an issues - those things are hard to kill unless you hook the battery cables up backwards.
I recommend disconnecting the battery for a minute or 2 (clears the stored trouble codes and allows the car to "relearn" ). Start the car and let it idle for a few minutes then drive it and check for trouble codes after.
Myself, I got tired of buying the expensive Bosch MAF every couple of years so I've been running a Microtech MAF for more than a few years now - took awhile but it did die and I exchanged it(with the proof of a receipt) with no questions asked. Those Microtechs have a lifetime warranty so if you think there is problem with the actual MAF exchange it for another.
