Default 1992 lt1 cooling system

Why does gates upper raidiator hose not fit raidiator neck hose to small, do i need to get hoses from gm dealer (ouch$)
& is there a special way to fill raidiator to get air out of system, doing tune up and wanting to replace all cooling hoses so doesnt leak on new distributor cap

Can't comment on the hose, try another supplier.

To fill, just fill the surge tank to the top. Then open the brass bleeder screw (think the 92 has 1) and let the air out. Start engine keep tank full bring up to temperature and add coolant if necessary. Put cap on, fill over flow tank to cold mark and then drive car couple times and let cool. Check overflow tank and refill to proper cold level when necessary.

This works for me, I'm sure there are other opinions.

the best way to get air out of the system is to
1 remove the whole bleeder srew assembly
2 goto the hardware store and buy a 1/8 inch npt nipple,an 1/8 to 1/4 npt adapter,a 1/4 inch ball **** vavle and a 1/4 to hosebarb fitting
3 using pipe thead sealant run the 1/8 fitting into the 1/4 adapter then into the shut of valve.
4 just hand tighten the barb fiting in the other end of the shutoff.
5 put a 3' lenth of clear tube on the barb.
6 using tread sealer screw the assembley into the hole in the t-stat neck.
7 open the valve
8 fill the system hold the tube above the resivoir
9 have someone start and run the car if the system is full the water in the tube will be level with the top of the resivoir it takes a while..
10 close the valve remove the barb fitting, leaving the shutoff valve in place.
11 re install the barb fitting and repeat every so often..

this way u dont get water all over the place and you can completely blead the system..when ever u want..... sometimes u need an angled fitting for clearance a short staight nipple works on mine

Default 2 bleeder screws

Having just flushed the cooling system on my 1992, I know there are 2 bleeder screws. One is fairly visible, on the top of a metal pipe on the passenger side near the front of the block. The other is on the drivers side, kind of tucked down under the throttle body. Take the air intake off of the throttle body and it is easier to see. Make sure to keep the water from this one off the Opti.

I got my hoses for the 92 from NAPA a few years ago. IIRC all I had to do was some length trimming to make them work. The diameter fit perfect.

Could not remember if the 92 had one or two bleed valves. Now thinking about it I think the 95 & 96 has one. Be as it may, I have changed the coolant countless times due to repair jobs and preventive maintenance.

I never had an air problem or overheating problem after filling it back up. I did it as I described with my 2 bleed valves but never jumped thru any hoops or did anything special, weird or fancy. Not rocket science.

Its always been fill with the top bleed valve open. when water shows up on the rag - close it.
Start car
idle until thermostat opens, add fluid until its full.
Now hold the revs around 2000
add fluid until its full
shut off add fluid to over flow.
Check level after cooldown of first track session (used to be check the level ech morning for the first few days driving to work, but that doesn't happen anymore)
