Got my piece to hook my larger throttle body up to the maf installed the other day. However I had to buy a section of 3" coupling because it was too short to use the stock air box. I have it all hooked up and it will function fine but I think it looks like crap as is. I can post pics of it when I get home. My question its realistically how much would I be hurting myself if I took it off and just slapped a filter after the maf? I know the best air is going to be in front of the radiator but I'm going to have to change something before I let anyone look under the hood.
I guess one drawback would be that the blue reducer would then be supporting the weight of the maf and filter.

Reason: added silly pic.
I think that if you paint the blue coupler black you will be ok.
Many street rod guys attach an air filter directly to the throttle body. Never cared for a type of system that ingests 200 degree radiator air on a Vette as they tend to run warm anyway.

in addition the cone filters are much smaller than the OEM vette filters and thus more restricitive......
Just cover it with duct tape. Actually it looks fine. The question is, how does it run? If you can whip them at the strip, they won't make fun of your car.
Don't forget to install the belt before you take her out for a spin.
Years ago, before the wide spread use of the internet, i used to use marine exhaust bellows for intake connector options on motor swaps. I used to get mine from the local sNAPA store. Though they are not inexpensive they work great, can be had in a great number of sizes/shapes and can be installed without too much difficulty as they are pretty pliable.
Just curious, but what good is a larger throttle body if your going to restrict the air flow to it.the advantage of a larger throttle body is to increase the c.f.m.. If the air inlet to it is not as large, you may as well leave the stock throttle body.

That's the throttle body that FIRST ships with their intake. All the components have to be used together unless you want to make some sort of adapter plate. I didn't buy just the throttle body thinking it would make it faster, it's just that's what they sent with the unit so that's what I used.
