Problem is my SES light dont work. Until we get it hooked up right I cant do paperclip but its good to know that will work cuz I thought it only worked for OBD I.
Does paperclip trick work on new cars too with those same ports being jumped (#4 & #12)

You don’t need the SES light to see the codes, does not work like the earlier cars. The actual module numbers (1,4&9) and code numbers for each are displayed on the speedometer. There are specific code numbers for each module.
Pins 4 & 12 only work for the 94 and 95 models (OBD1) with the OBD2 connector. The 93 and earlier have a different connector and the 96 is OBD2 and a scanner is required to get the codes from that.
You can get information on how to read the codes on the Forum and other sources. The FSM is best as it has all the codes for all modules plus the SIR module and more things you can do than you can imagine.

AH well See i have an 87 body with the 95 engine. So all i have is the SES light to go off of since its 87 dash... But sounds like even if i get that hooked up... it doesnt flash a number of times like it did when i did have my L98 in there.
Thats why I am lookin for a scanner that will read the comp. Autozone and advanced auto parts didnt work. Next would be local chevy dealer!
And being that I may not be able to pull all the codes from my SES light, I may want to get the scanner myself So I can read them... But need one that works.
Hard to know how to approach your situation. Are you using a PCM for a 95 for engine control. And do you have a CCM that is working with the whole deal?
Before you go and get a scanner or computer, get someone with one just to try it to see if it even works.

PCM being the computer that is on the driver side of engine bay, right?
What is the CCM? YOu may have to break those down for me.
Sry but I had someone get me into this project and bail on me, and I see he didnt really know much about this swap either.
WE took the old computer out from the 87 being in the dash passenger side (ECM I believe).
We installed the 95 computer (PCM I'm thinking).
We had the engine harness modified by LT1 wiring so he eliminated stuff that wouldn't work in the 87... and labeled out what we had to hook up to the chassis wiring so that the dash display worked and ignition worked. He also cleared the vats on the computer.
So am I missing a component? Could you explain how the 95 brain works?
Also tried my friends reader which is wireless to his phone but wouldnt link.
