Default starter motor remove help

Iam going to try to remove my 1986 vette starter motor on saturday.
I just dont know the best way to doit.

dont know if better to go from the top of engine bay. or under the car.

like to know if I can enconter any special dificulties in the middle of the job, or something I sure know about before start.

if any body had done this before. and can give me some pointer, to make the job easy. I would appreciate if you can give me some directions to take

A ten year old can do it. Only hard part for me was getting it past the fuel lines just take your time. You'd have to be on crack to take it out through the top.

I think it was the 4+3 OD cooler lines that ran in the way. But you can still work around them, just have to spin the starter around after you get it unbolted to get it OUT. Don't forget to disconnect your battery + cable, first. Unless you like welding with wrenches

On my 86 the ATF lines were in the way but I squeezed it past them. Gravity helps when removing it. You have to work a bit to get past them going back in but it can be done. If replacing, I recommend going back in with a mini starter to make it easy.

It is a tight fit and does not look like it will come out. But once disconnected it will pass thru.

Installation is doable with with a little time.

It's a good thought but I don't think we need the pics, there's only 2 bolts and 2 power connections to remove.

It is not a hard job as long you dont have full lenght headers if you do it's can be a pain you have to remove the header to get the starter out.

make sure you secure the car safely on jack stands first. disconnect the battery. remove the power connections and the mounting bolts. you may encounter some mounting bolts that are very tight and tuff to turn. If you don't put the new one in right you'll have all kinds of problems with starting.

If your Starter has Spacers count them as they come out and put them back in the same way.

But It best to measure the gap between the starter and the Flex Plate or Flywheel if it a Manual Trans.

The paper clip works Is about the size gap you need to measure.

Should be a brace from the end of the starter to the block. Should be able to unbolt the starter and let it rest, then remove the wires.
