Well yesterday I got the bad news from my motor. It seems we did not get the valves are not adjusted properly. So I janked it apart again and tried it again, got it together a few minuets ago and still not adjusted correctly. I followed the FSM to the letter(or so I believe). So does anyone have suggestions on how to adjust one cylinder at a time? This may take longer but I am frustrated with the vette sitting there and not running. So shot me your ideas on how to do one cylinder at a time and I will start tearing back into the valve adjustments.
I really need all the help I can get Alaska man. I have torn it apart twice now and getting ready to open it up again. I am starting to get very tired of doing this and am almost ready to get it towed to a repair shop. Before I do that though I will give it one more attempt. Thanks for helping me and keeping my head above water.....

You can adjust one cylinder at a time if you can find a true compression stroke TDC. Find compression stroke TDC for the #1 cylinder, adjust both valves. Then turning the crank 90*/1/4 turn follow the firing order 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 and adjust the valves on each cylinder.
Just remember if the engine hasn't been ran that the lifters can be bled down and it is easy to overadjust. I like to move the pushrod up and down to find 0 lash. Once there is no movement in the pushrod, adjust the valve 1 full turn.
Heres is the question for the forum.... After I get #1 to TDC and adjust the 8 valves as the FSM states do I ...... Rotate the crankshaft 360 degress or 180 degress before I adjust the last 8 valves??? Or do I ... roate the crank untill number 1 comes back to TDC before I adjust the last 8 valves as stated in the FSM????
Things that make you hmmmmmmm
and scratch alot......
ROFLMAO
just for info here is a write up with pictures I did on this subject, http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...ron-heads.html
also the umbrella seals are designed to compensate for wear in the valve guides so as they wear the umbrella seals stop the oil from going down the guide and into the combustion chamber.
This may have helped a week ago and then we would have started disassembly on compression #1 cylinder. Now the rockers have been removed and reinstalled 3 times and still not on compression #1.
So I keep doing the hit and miss and hoping I get it on compression TDC #1. Attempt #4 starts today.
I am thinking of taking both rockers off number one cyl. and rotating the motor over by hand while watching the push rods moving. To try and get it to compression TDC. The question is ---- In which postion should both push rods be when #1 cyl is TDC compression? I am hoping that this will work and get the motor on the correct stroke. HELPPPPPPPPPPPP, thanks everyone for all comments.
I understand both will be closed on compression stroke. All my rockers were removed and new stems put on, now we cannot figure out how to ensure we are on compression stroke. I think we put them back together and were not on compression #1. So how can I tell when it is at TDC compression #1 with the valves were not adjusted on the compression stroke??
