Which leads to this question. I have never had the VATS module out or taken apart. How hard is it to access and view the IC board? Possibly this would be another way to identify one's key if needed vs the many alternative ways, ie. locating an interrogator, trying various resistors(and the time delay involved) etc.

Gotta pull dash pad then remove passenger side "bread box"
It is directly behind the passenger side ac vent thing. Then it will be the resistor directly adjacent to terminal (w) wire. The harness has no wire on terminal (w)

This would only work for an '86 - '88 module. In '89 the module became a 'learning device' for the service one and I'd imagine that the OE/GM would have also been a learned device in the car. If a person was parting an '86 - '88 car it would certainly aid in making the module likely more salable.
