Default Bbk throttle body question

I installed a bbk 52 mm throttle body on my 85. I'm having a problem with the airduct. The new tb's snout is larger than the old tb. Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks

I bought a flexible reducer off ebay for like $12 shipped. Spectre sells them as well. If you goto your local hardware store or lowe's they will probably have something similar in the plumbing section.

The fast answer is a rubber 3 to 4" reducer from a plumbing store..or Home Depot.. Yes, I know, but it works.

Then to be cool and sexy you have to buy a Smooth Bore "power coupler" from one of the catalog stores or E Bay. Those can be $50 or more....so the $10 bell reducer (that fits perfectly with hose clamps on each end) starts looking better everyday.

I brought this to the attention of a BBK rep at a Corvette shop many yrs ago when I discovered the stock accordian duct was too small to fit the BBK mouth. Nothing ever came of it as I suspected. They should at least warn people that the stock duct will not fit their larger TB.....

I did this when I installed a 52mm TB. The air duct is plastic and pretty thin so go real easy with the heat gun. I have a small vise on my workbench and the big end of the duct easily fit over it when the vise was closed. I headed the duct and placed it around the side of the vice jaws and slowly opened the vise to stretch the duct. I let the duct cool before trying the fit on the TB.

It took a few times to heat and stretch the duct so it would fit the TB but it worked. I was able to re-use the original clamp too

I used boiling water and a couple of tapered 2x4's to stretch the mouth...

If the Archives here are Searchable, you'll find several members used a section of traffic warning cone to make the inlet tract...You know, those orange cones used by emergency street workers to keep traffic away...

I did a similar variation:

I used one of those Harbor Freight wooden "clamps" (see link below) a blow torch instead. The clamp works well because they can be inserted into the bellow and loaded up to actually "spread" the duct. Once clamp's "spread" tension is on the duct - I used quick direct heat (yep flame on) from a hand held blow torch to get the boot (only where the big "hose clamp" goes) into a slightly pliable state. Once heated - quickly slide the boot over the TB lip before it cools/shrinks. Install the hose clamp and your done.
