While at cruising speed I'm experiencing the following problem with 4+3 transmission.
* While in overdrive I downshift (drop into manual). When I push the accelerator "clutch disengaged" there is a vibration (sounds like slippage) noise coming from the transmission. Doesn't seem to effect performance but it concerns me that something is in the initial stages of damage.
* Since it seems to be directed toward the manual portion of the transmission is there a quick inspection or fix someone can recommend?
The biggest complaint with the 4+3 is driving it like a 7 speed- DON'T. Leave it in overdrive all the time, unless racing stop light to stop light then take it out of overdrive. They got rid of that Doug Nash 4+3 and went to the 6 speed in 89. When I had my 85 I always left it in overdrive and when I serviced the car I always serviced the transmission and filter at the same time.Never had problems with it. You are probablyexperincing the noise from pre -selecting the gear before shifting from, auto to manual. Do not shift like a 7 speed. Your transmission will love you for it. Hope this helps.
