Default Opti-WP-plug wires-etc

Evening all. Just got back from a 1200 mile trip to NJ and back in my 95 coupe and she didn't have a hickup, even when the temp at morning startup was 14 degrees. I turned over 117,000 on the way home. I don't know whether the opti and water pump are original but I have to assume they are. I've been planning on replacing the plug wires so I've been studying up on the proper way to do this. Unfortunately, it appears this is a major undertaking and is probably much easier when the water pump is removed. This raises a lot of questions in my mind as to what additional things should I look at doing if I'm going that far.

From what I've read here over the past couple of years, some recommend replacing the distributor cap and button on the opti if it is still functional. This is obviously the cheaper way to go, and I don't have any indication the opti is not fully functional. So in addition to the plug wires (Taylor) I'd be getting the cap and rotor button. So I've pulled the water pump and also need to pull the balancer to get the cap and button changed. Should I also replace the water pump at this point? I've looked at what's available for the 95 and think the Edelbrock is probably the best choice.

So with the work I have to do to accomplish a simple plug wire change, what else should I look at doing. I guess the serpentine belt would be on the list along with a new thermostat. Upper hose seems to be firm so I don't think I need a new one.

Thanks in advance.

You might want to change the seals in the timing cover. You should have 3 of them. The water pump shaft seal can be tricky, you'll need to use a tool to do it correctly. I think someone is selling them in the for sale section for around $10 or you can use a sharpy pen cap.
