Default 84 coutesy light timer install

I need to replace the courtesy light timer in my 84 Corvette. I have the FSR that shows that the timer is located behind the breadbox, but I haven't been able to get to it. I've tried from below the breadbox but I can't even see it, let alone get to it.

Do I need to take the dash pad off or is there a better way?

Probably best to take the dash off. That will allow you see alot better. Trust me, I have been upside down looking up for things and it isn't fun.

Here is a write-up on the replacement of the courtesy light delay timer. You may already have this, if not, here it is.

You do not have to take the dash apart to get to the module. You DO have to access it from the bottom. Its best to take the passenger seat out so you have a little more room to work. Next you have to remove the hush panel and unbolt & lower the ECM. The module is taped onto the main wiring harness with black electrical tape. It is usually about mid way between the left & right side of the foot well (8 - 10" away from the door panel/fuse box area) You will have to look carefully AND be careful when you locate it as there are a million wires around it. Once you get your hands on it you can pull down on the lock clip & pull the connector off. I used an dull knife to cut through the electrical take so I could pull the module out.

I'll tell you that it is a real bear to locate. It actually took me a couple of months of looking, off and on, to finally find it and get it out. Once you get it out, the new one just snaps back in. I just left it there and DID NOT try to reinstall the electrical tape.

Be patient and you will eventually find it.

remove the knee pad, should help. the bread box isnt that hard to remove,it does take time, take the center bezel loose and it just comes out with a few screws. gives you a good time to replace those fuses located behind there.

On my 86 removing the bread box does not give access to the courtesy light delay module. The module is under the plastic tray which is under & behind the bread box. So if you remove the bread box you still can't get to the module. You can only get to the module from below. Its above the knee pad area. At least that's how it is on the 86 MY. I don't know if other years are different.

I already have the bread box delete so I removed the knee pad. One hand below and one above I pulled it up where I could do the white wire jumper to eliminate the timer. Course then I found out the durn door lights were just on..........Go figure, lol.
