Default airfoil bolt damage question

I'm wondering about those people who have installed an airfoil and then later had the bolt get sucked into the engine - did you/the installer use any threadlocker/locktite? It seems like this would be the only way to do this install, but no one seems to have mentioned it in the threads I've seen.

When these first came out I worked at Speed Merchant in San Jose and we never installed one without the threadlocker and never had any problems. Of course that was a long time ago.......

Never used threadlocker never any problems.
Sure couldnt hurt though.

Hell of a way to lose an engine from a lousy screw.

I fell into the trap and got sucked in when I first bought my 85. I didn't know about the Forum back then. And yes, I used thread locker RED to be sure that it stayed put.

My next "upgrade" back then was to install 1.5 & 1.6 roller rockers. I had heard stories about the rockers coming apart and parts going into the pan. I cleaned all the oil return holes in the heads and epoxied in fine wire mesh over all these holes.....just in case. Never had a problem, but felt safer.

If it matters....Not all airfoils require a screw.

When my 84 was 2 years old, I installed a NOS crossfire nitrous kit. I braised anut on the end of the throttle body bolts in order to fasten the air cleaner. One of these nuts came undone, motor swallowed it and cracked a cylinder. Not the worse thing though. Since the car was no longer be original, I didn't hesitate to pop a better engine in it. The first of many.

I used threadlocker on my 87 and never had a problem.

I think it said to use it in the installation instructions and I think a little tube even came with the airfoil. I don't remember for sure, but I think it was an SLP airfoil, but it has been 20 years ago.
