Ok first let me say I hate to start off being a forum user this way. secound Im not much of a gm fan. I am a ford fan but figured what the heck I wanted to mess with a vette for a change. So story goes, I bought this 85 vette and drove it all the way home from florida. I live in ST.louis. I got home andchange plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I start the car up and it runs for 45 sec-1 min and then shuts off like someone unplugged it. now when I crank it over the security light flashes and I have no spark. where do I start? is there a issue with the security system
Did your problem start immediately after you changed the parts? If so then go back and double check all. Make sure that the wires to the distributor cap are snug. If the battery wire to the cap is loose, it might cut of power to the cap after the engine turns a couple of times.
yes I went through it several times. the thing that bothers me is I dont remember the security light flashing when I turn the car over. I have check and have power to the coil, I even changed the coil out with a new one thinking that may be the issue. Like I said we drove this car 1000 miles home and all i did was cap, rotor, plug and wires. now I have also changed out the coil. when I check for spark when I turn it over I got nothing. I guess I might as well change out the pick up also
yes Im possitive. but that doesnt help the security light flashing when it turn over. Like i said everything was tested, power to the coil, ground and tach wire. Thats why I replace the coil to see if may it freakishly went bad

At the back of the engine just below the distributor there is an oil pressure switch. If the engine doesn't build oil pressure after it's first started, then the fuel pump won't run. The fuel pump is energized when you first turn the key on which allow you to start the engine, but then the circuit connected to this oil pressure switch needs to close in order to keep the fuel pump running. It sounds like perhaps this connector might have gotten knocked off when you were working with the distributor on your tune-up. Something to check for.

just for the heck of it, disconnect the battery and leave over night
