I bought a Dart SHP block for a long term / next winter /spring build of a 421 with a Supercharger for a goal of 650hp minimum 700hp max, no under shooting on this go round, its all or nothing.
Callies & Lunati internals fit with no issues inside the SHP according to many searches, I already have the FAST XFI now, so I'll need heads, supercharger cam and a Supercharger, which I'll pick up little by little over the next 10-12 months.
I pick it up tonight, yeah baby, yeahhh!
Coming to a Hot Dog stand near you in Spring 2013!
I'm not sure whether to do this, or buy an LS2 and put LS3 heads and intake. Too many options nowadays. This would be bolt-in with what I have. Congrats on the buy!
I have been tempted to buy the same block, each time I'm at the Lordco trade show. Maybe this year
I agonized a lot about the choice, but if you Google, you'll see Dart made a 440-CI and 612hp with a carb on a dyno,,, so I've also seen guys making up to 1000-FWHP with this block, but built with top quality parts.
I'm stoked, I can build a 421 with 9.5 CR and drive it until I get the Procharger bolted on.
uhhhh, I've taught the only one son I have the habits of expensive hobbies,,,,, Golf, Guns, Cars and Guitars...Guns will take a back seat this year to more hp Golf & cars will rule this year
ooooooo so jealous! you must be psyched. I can't wait to see this build thread. Does the block come with the cyl bore's just roughed in and you need to have that machine work done? Also are you going to assemble the short block yourself?

He plays guitar, so you know how that goes, I have him trained to play Hotel California, Crazy Train, 867-5309, Sunshine of you Love etc, and he gets guitar lessons every Thursday,
Not to derail your thread but I heard you have some extensive background on Hydraulic throw out bearings.
I picked up a 91 black/red coupe with the 412 small block in it that fastlife had advertised here on the forum not long ago. He said the clutch was slipping at highway speeds in upper gears, I got the car and clutch pedal grabs about 1" from the top of its travel and its obviously something going on with this set up, slipping so bad that you can let the clutch out fully with a few rpms and it sounds like an automatic.
Pedal has a small amount of play all the way at the top so that's telling me the rod is returning.
I'm thinking the disc is cooked and as it wore, it brought the clutch fingers tighter and tighter towards the hydraulic TO bearing, eventually actually riding the fingers causing a diminished clamp from the pp making it slip.
Entire Ram Clutch set up including a Ram Flywheel custom made for the 400 sb is said to be not very old including the hydraulic TO bearing.
That sound about right to you? Have not pulled it apart yet was hoping maybe you could point me in the right direction with a fix before I tear into it....I think I've answered my own question but would like to hear your opinion.
Larry, you will love the power of a 421. I have done alot of them and you won't have to work it that hard to make some big power with a supercharger on it.
