Default HELP Me please! Abt coolant temp sensor

Okay, allow me to explain why and what I need a help with this coolant temp sensor or whatever is it on passenger side's block or head that have some kind of sensor screwed in between last two sparkplug holes. I was putting engine on the stand and its fell on the floor as its smashed that part and I did not remember what is it looked like so I need someone to tell me what is it and where can I buy the right one for it. As for me being rookie, what connector that connect that sensor as well. Its 1985 TPI and thank you very much.

The CTS is up front on the intake
The sensor you broke is for the temp gauge it has a fitting like a knock sensor

The one in drivers side should be same as 1st link ;the temp gauge sender
Which would make the one in the pass side a fan switch; looks like the one in 2nd link

Just a guess on my 84 it was the engine cooling fan switch/sensor it turned on the main fan. The 85 may have used this same switch/sensor for the auxiliary fan switch maybe just a guess..Does it look like this..I found this on zips website, just put in the year and coolant switch and it will bring them up...one is a low temp coolant switch, the one pictured is the coolant temp sensor, hope this helps.

In 85 the computer controlled the fan with the switch being a over ride

But it's different from original right? If it is then that mean I have to cut the connection wire and connect the wire into new one as its goes with that sensor. Correct me if I am wrong but it's should be what you are saying since you have same year as I do.

So like I originally said above your broken one is the fan switch

Does your wire on the harness at that position have a plastic connector like this ?

If so go to your parts shop and get a ACDelco # D1852B or get them to cross reference to same style unit.
A common fan switch used in 80's Camaros /Firebirds /Vettes and other GM cars

Or you can buy same style aftermarket switch that will turn your fan on at a lower engine temp

If you don't have that stock connector then you can use any temp switch you like
as you will need a new plug anyway

It's the similar mine looked older and have some kind of metal needle instead of that. I would post a pic but I am new to this so I don't know how to post it sadly

Yours may have aged a bit, but likely is the same connector. Here is a pic of my spare, you can see the pin.

yes, you get the switch and the connector, you just cut the old connector off (its prob stuffed by now after 25 years of heat)
the new connector has a crimp fitting built into it, its easy to do and sets of the primary fan at 195 degrees.

Yeah it's look like that without the plastic tube wrapping around the metal tip. So which temp sensor should I be getting? And thanks

Are these arranged differently every year?

On my 87,
the passenger side (between 6 & 8) is the temp gauge display sender unit. does nothing else. Blade type plug. (the broken sensor in question?)

driver side (between 1&3) is aux cooling fan temp switch..not even an issue if there is no pusher fan. Pin type plug on switch.

Coolant temp sensor for ECM is front of intake manifold. 2 pin plug. Next to cold start switch also 2 pin plug.

The link i posted to summit has the part you need,
on the 85 the left side (drivers side) is the auxillary fan,
on the right side is the primary fan,
I know this 195 f switch works, when we had the snapon reader hooked up to the ecm doing the timing the primary fan came on as soon as the temp hit 195
