Default Help starter problem

Hi I have been member for sometime now and this is first time I have had problem that I could not find the answer on here. I have a 95 LT1convertable auto, base.. My car has been in the my garage for the winter where I would go out and start it every other week let it warm. yesterday I went to start it key fob opened door, I opened hood removed my battery tender. As i usually do I turned the key heard the fuel pump run then tuned the key to start. got two clicks like a dead battery but battery was not dead. after the second click every thing went dead ,battery is like it shorted out not any power left in it. I took of ground cable and now hoping someone can help as to what is and went wrong.I am hoping it is just starter but have never had a battery go dead at the turn of the key.

Clean and tighten both battery terminals. Sounds like one has a poor connection.

If you put your meter on a terminal with a poor connection, you can get a bad reading.

Was you meter on the lead terminals of battery or cables ?

the battery was good now its no volts or amps its dead. this all happened as soon as I tried starting it. could it be my starter shorted or stuck. to drain and kill the battery. I tried a battery charger all lights came back but as soon as I turned the key to start every thing died. no clicks or anything. Im going to try charging it but I realy dont think it will and Im worried to put a new one in till I find what made it kill this one .

Your battery is likely dead and it's likely no fault of your own.
It's not by chance a Sears Die Fast battery is it?

Just because the battery was working last week doesn't mean it is this week. When I bought my car it had a Die Hard battery in it. I drove it to work one morning, FINE. I drove it to lunch later that day, FINE. I got in the car to go home and all I got was click click click. No I didn't leave the lights on, the door ajar, glovebox open, etc.

I got a jump start and got started down the road but the battery was so dead that it didn't put out enough voltage to get the alternator started charging. About 1 mile down the road, moving at 40 MPH the car just died and there was no starting it back.

I managed to get the car home and put a charger on it for several hours. It was showing 12.5 volts. I tried the starter and it fell to 9. A few minutes later it was gone.

battery was good up until the moment I turned the key over to start. something shorted it out even with a battery charger on to the start setting it would not turn over or make any clcking sound. could a bad starter cause this to happen.to short out the battery.

Batteries are a bunch of lead plates suspended in acid. Over time the lead plates get thinner and brittle. The heavy load placed on the battery when you attempted to start it probably just caused one of the last little bits of the plate to erode away and it shorted the battery internally. It happens to the best of batteries eventually.

If there is a problem with the car this will become evident when you install a new battery and try again, but a new battery will have a warranty so you really have absolutely nothing to lose. With a dead battery you absolutely can't do any testing or troubleshooting anyway.

You can go get a battery and put in it or you can let it sit there trying to come up with other explanations, it's your choice.

If the battery is shorted internally it's still going to be shorted when you connect your charger and it's not going to do anything when you try to start the car. Chargers (any decently new ones) have built in safety circuits to prevent them from outputting anything if they don't detect any voltage. It's a safety feature to make sure you don't hook it up wrong. If your battery truly is reading 0 volts your charger isn't going to do anything.

I also wouldn't try to jump it off of another vehicle if it's shorted internally unless you want to cook that battery, alternator, or your jumper cables. PLEASE go get a new battery and be done with it.
