I'v seen a lot of stuff showing guys pulling their engines without the tranny but it allways looks like its an automatic. Can an engine be pulled without the tranny if its a six speed? Doesn't look like theres enough room to pull it forward and get it off the front shaft.
I posted this on another post and I think I started some ????.
Thanks; Bob
93 LT-1 with Six speed, shorty headers and full flowmasters, chip, K+N, 175 shot.
There are many threads on here as you know on how to pull and engine.
Its real easy in a 93. Takes a few hours, 4 at most. Put engine puller from left or right side of engine. Lift and pull out. Not hard.
Disconnect 2 nuts from engine mounts under cradle, 18mm
Disconnect exhaust from flanges.
Pull fuel rail by unbolting four bolts on manifold and lift rail out and lay over passenger side tire., or disconnect at fuel rail.
Disconnect Radiator hoses, disconnect air cleaner from throttle body.
Disconnect various wires/hoses connected to harness going to manifold.
Brake vacuum line off from left side of engine
Disconnect power steering pulley bracket from engine, push forward.
Disconnect Transmission, auto and manual little different.
Use Happy Hooker on manifold to hook up to puller.
Cant think of much more, very simple process.
I can leave the tranny in and pull it far enough forward to get out of front shaft of trans on 6 speed?
I am not a 6 speed expert. I am sure someone will chime in. I have seen engines being pulled with the bellhousing still attached, so I would think so.
Also, forgot to say in my last post, disconnect battery.
The transmission should be removed before pulling the motor. It's going to be way more trouble than it's worth to try to pull the motor with the transmission still in place.
I pulled my 93 6 speed motor this winter and left the tranny in, you have to remove the balancer and the hub. The motor has to come forward a long way but it will come out. Going back in it's the same, tight but it will go back in, you just need a jack that can support the back of the motor while you align the clutch splines with the tranny shaft. It really helps to have two people also. I think I might have some pictures if you want to see them.
