hello everyone, just wanted to start off by saying this is my first post. I have been doing a lot of research on the forum since my dad sent me his 94 c4. He had the motor built by some guy in TX, it's a 396 with forged internals. everything is good on the bottom end, but he topped it off with the edelbrock performer lt1 heads(part # 61909), edelbrock intake(7107), and shorty hooker headers. I know this engine is choking up top, I have Exotic Muscle long tubes on the way, but what do I do about the heads? Everything I have read says I would be better off with ported stock heads. My question is should I spend the money on AFR's, Trickflows, or Advanced induction, or can the edelbrock heads be ported enough to flow like the AFR's, Trickflows, etc? Just want to say thanks for any input ahead of time. looking forward to what you guys think. I'll also be replacing the camshaft also.
Personally, I would go with a 200-210cc intake port. Those heads you have aren't cutting it at all, especially with a 396. I'm sure people will also recommend going with a super ram or mini ram, or even the holley stealth ram for intake options.
Id sell the Edelbrock heads and get a real good head pass on the stock crap.
Most times they dont flow what "some" claim they do once they are done. Seen it too many times
To get them to start moving some air you start creating "dirty air" to get there. Just isnt worth it to anyone except the guy taking your money
