First where does the single red wire go (not the one in the pig tale )?

Here is what i have done today rebuilt alt from new source, new pigtail, new battery. Start car same problem 11.8 at fast ilde on three different gauges all reading same ,once warm it goes to 11.4.
Will go and see what readings i get at the above mentioned places.

I went through SIX heater cores in ONE month on the ex's '97 Bonneville. They discovered the Mexicans were using low-grade solder and the antifreeze would eat through them in a couple of days. BTW, these were AC/Delco cores installed by the Pontiac dealership.

So yeah, I believe you could get a row of bad alternators no matter where you got them...chit happens, ya know?

So you're saying after all this, it was the power wire on the back of the alt? I don't have that boot, I have a plastic cover that "snaps" over the lug that you have to remove to expose the wire when you take it off. I would think you'd have to pull that boot back to un-do the nut and you would've seen that. Oh well, it's hard not being there to see for ourselves.
