This doesnt sounds like that bad of a job...I was really flirting with the idea of getting longtubes. I was either going to get OBXR or Hedman. The hedmans I was looking at dont support EGR however but cost $300 less. Anyone know whats more cost effective?
I installed a set of Headman headers on my 89 in a very small garage with the front and back of the car up on jack stands. I was in the process of replacing the rear drag links and tie rod ends in the back and decided that since I had part of the car torn down while waiting on parts, I might as well start on the headers.
It took my son and I about two or three hours to get them on and all tight. (He was 13 and I was teaching him at the same time.) It's been a few years since I did that so I can't remember if there were any "got yas". If I recall correctly I pulled the starter which helped get the headers in, but it was a mother to put it back on. You have to twist it a certain way and hold your mouth just right (in a spot where crap falls in your mouth) to get the headers and the starter installed.
Once I got the headers on the car and the rear end put back together I drove to the alignment shop down the street to get the rear end aligned. I then drove across town with open headers to the muffler shop. I had him put in 3" pipes, 2 random tech universal cats, and a pair of Flowmaster Delta 40s. While he was there I had him add a pair of dumps at the back of the car right before the pipes bend over to the side of the car.
I say go for it... If anything do it so you can drive it to his shop with open headers. :-)
