Need som help to identify a contact in engine bay. Car 93 model LT1 (which is newly rebuild - 383 stroker).
I´m in process of installing an external gearoilcooler. Picture is left side of engine bay. A/C compressor is removed.
There is 12 v switched power from the contact. My plan is to use it as power for gearoilcooler. Cannot remember the contact or find what it was connected to. It is not the the contact to A/C compressor..
if you don't have any check engine light lit, then I'd bet that connector is for the emissions system or AIR injection system.
Well, I have "check engine". But the AIR injection system is removed (the air pump front left side also is disconnected). The AIR injection system was removed a couple of years ago when installing headers.
Thx for reply ;-)
did some investigation for you, I'm almost certain that's for the diverter valve which is part of the AIR system.
Yes it is. The question now is can I use this contact to power the cooler fan. The cooler fan is always on (don't have a thermostat yet). I suppose the fan uses 2-3 amps when running so the effect should be about 20-30W ? Or - am I missing something..
I'd have to look at the wiring diagram to see where it gets its power from. I suspect that it's either a constant 12V with switched ground through the ECM, or vice versa. I'd be really hesitant to pull any power through the ECM other than what was intended.

I agree. Will check wire diagram. It is switched 12v, but will check if it goes through ECM. I will probably leave as it is and find another source for fan (maybe from the air pump - it is also disabled)..
