Glen,
Whe you did the above testing, the doors were closed and the ignition was OFF, correct?

Mick,
Yes, the doors were shut and the ignition was off.

Regarding the engine ground, my 84 FSM only shows one that I could see on the schematic and I can see that one which is a flat braided cable that is attached to the frame near the battery and fastens to the DS of the motor -is there another?

I don't have an '84 FSM so you're on your own there. You 'could' measure the ground cable for resistance. I would also remove the bolts for that ground and clean the connections. If you measure more than 1 Ohm, there is a problem on one end of that ground strap or the other.
Did you remove the dipstick tube and measure from the bolt that secures the tube to the frame? If you have a convenient bolt, you could run another ground from the dipstick tube bolt to the frame.

Once the pos issues have been resolved, you might consider what I did to assure good stable grounding...

I ran a new cable from battery to block, and battery to frame. Plenty of bolts to use. Routing is the most challanging,. Route with a string first then you can see what length cable to buy.
Also from harness grounds to frame at the battery connection. Then there is a smaller ground wire (primary wire) that connects from battery to frame at a different point near critical ground points.

Mick,
I FOUND THE PROBLEM
I had traced the positive cable and it seemed OK. But, it was attached with it running over the solenoid and had a connection on the end that was sort of bent at a 90 degree angle.
I couldn't see it, but when I felt everything, I could feel the cable was against the dip stick tube a few inches above the block.
There was an extra rubber sleeve at the end that was worn through.
I removed the cable, fixed the rubber sleeve and installed the cable, moving it over an inch away from the dip stick tube.
Connected the battery and everything is perfect.
So as the sleeve wore over time, it must have been shorting just enough to drain the battery?
Thanks to you and everyone for the help!
Now I need to fined a dip stick for an 84, which according to Corvete Centrals parts listings, is different from 85 and on
