I just changed my ignition over to MSD, dist. coil, wires, and 6AL box and my Tach goes crazy on acelleration and MSD says to bypass the tach filter. Can anyone tell me whwere that is at on a 94
Should be a little round piece in a bracket on the firewall. Follow the tach signal wire from the distributor. It will lead right into it.
Actually the distributor is the opti and those wires go to the PCM. The tach filter is actual connected pin "A" of the hot coil. There are 2 pin "A"s and it is not the dark green wire. If you trace the correct pin "A" you will probably find it. I cannot tell you exactly where it is.
Thanks for the info everyone,I called the dealer and found out that it is the small rectangle shaped box right off of the coil connector. Acording to MSD when i bypass this filter it will fix the problem i just havn't got to it yet...

When you say byass what exactly do you mean because one end of the filter goes to ground. It is not an "in line" connection.
So the only thing you can do is to remove it. Otherwise if you connect across it, you would be shorting the coil to ground and then you will blow the fuse and possibly damage the coil or ICM.
Removing it won't hurt anything. If things are worse with your tach, then that was not the problem and it is something other.

I found the tach filter, it is off of the coil wires. It has 2 white wires and 1 black wire going to it. I am thinking all I need to do is jump the 2 white wires together??? Would you agree??
Are you really sure you found the tach filter. Where did you find it. How sure are you that it is the tach filter. There is a connector type unit near or under the TPS. That is not it if that is what you got. However it does have at least one white wire from it.
I would not recommend shorting anything out or you might be in for a "world or grief". That’s some chance you are going to take with a car of this age and availability of major parts.
The FSM only shows the filter as having 3 connections. Not even sure that it has 3 wires as one connection might be the base itself.
I can't give you a definite answer, but before you EVER short anything out you better know 150% that you are on the right points and know exactly where you are in a circuit.

That will work.
Scroll down to page 12. It describes two methods.
How to bypass or eliminate the tach filter.
That’s a great picture and with that knew what I was looking for.
I really never looked for it, knew it was there and took some digging but I did finally find it wrapped up in electrical tape. It was hard to see under the hoses and wiring also.
I now think Barcat is in the right place and have more confidence in his course of action. I just did not want him to find any smoke.
Just cut out the Tach filter and my Tach works fine and also my Service ASR light went out and it now works fine!!!!And now my ingnition swap to MSD is complete and all is well!!!Thanks for all the help!!
