Going to swap out my 2.59 rear for a 3.07..1992 auto..so:
I've read everything here about correcting the speedometer and it gets a bit confusing.
What exactly will I need?

A green gear.. that was all it took to do my 91. I still have the gear if you need it. I rotated my VSS IIRC 180 degrees. 92 still have the 700R?
thats all it will take?? That would be great..Don't have to do anything with the one inside the trans..some of the reading I have done here points to a more complicated solution..

As far as I know no. I put the new gear in rotated the VSS and drove off.
There are two VSS units. One has the shaft that the gear mounts on offset to take a bigger gear with more teeth. If your shaft is centered then you don't need to rotate the VSS. I'm pretty sure the 2.59/3.07 VSS has the shaft centered.
The clamp that holds the VSS in the trans fits in ridges in the VSS and it is meant to go in only one way. I knew I had a picture, but I guess I didn't upload it before, but here it is (3.07 with green gear -- red gear on output shaft):

Changing the drive gear on the transmission tailshaft is only necessary for rear axle ratios lower than 3.07 such as 3.45,3.56, 3.73.
