Well, must have finally jinxed myself...she won't fire, no matter what trick I try to do. It did rain last night and i get water inside the car (sometimes a decent amount, sometimes very very little). Time to bust out the water hose and see if I can find anything (car has all new weatherstripping) and see if a module or any wiring gets soaked. Man If I can prove it's the windshield leaking and causing my issue, I'm going to have a field day with Safelite!
I totally feel your pain on this problem. I chased a stalling problem for almost a year but not exactly the same as yours. I don't want to say my car is fixed because I don't want to jinx it. It has been running fine for two weeks now and that hasn't happened in almost a year. I never had any problem starting mine, just would stall at random times and then restart after waiting a few minutes. I ended up with a few different problems and it was hard to trace it down because it didn't always throw a code. My ECM had a problem that was fixed and the final piece to the puzzle was the MAP sensor. All that came after checking grounds, fuses, relays and different components trying to eliminate possible causes. That was the most frustrating issue I've ever dealt with on any of my cars. I hope you find the fix soon.
Well, looks like it might be the Opti after all and all this other crap is just horrible timing. Tried to start it before work and it backfired...whoa. Well, lets try one more (imagine all kinds of horrible engine missing sounds) oh hell no. I think the Opti finally went south. Wondering if maybe the case is cracked and letting in moisture and then the rotor finally let go. God what an awful noise it made today.
On the bright side, at least I've now got a good time to get my dash pad and door panels recovered.
IT IS ALIVE! Yep, it was the ole opti-spark. Been running for almost two weeks now and had a hoot at my first autocross in 8 months!
While she was down, upgraded some rear suspension components too!
Congrats on the fix. Was it a GM opti or one of the aftermarket brands? I'll guess M.. ?
Really cool video as well. Pretty neat idea to place the camera (GoPro?) there so that you could see what was going on. Who's coil-overs did you go with?
I went with an off brand. Doing some research it doesn't look like you can guarantee an A/C Delco or Delphi opti is being built outside of china either, so why spend the extra cash. My mechanic owed me some hours, so it was worth the gamble this time around. If it last two years, I'll feel I got my money's worth, and every year after is just gravy. Yep, GoPro 3 silver.
I'm running Van Steel's double adjustable coil-overs, along with nearly every other suspension part they've got. Their lower rear mounts easily won me over...and it helps they are only about 5 miles from me.
