94 sputtering issues
About a month and half ago the car had some misfiring issues. So I went ahead and installed
1) Petris OpitSpark
2)Ignition Coil
3)Spark Plug Wires
4) Water Pump
About 2 months prior I had put in new spark plugs
While doing the optispark work I number all my wires to make things easy in the future.
After I had done this the car ran perfect... until about 3 weeks later when she pulled in and it sounded louder than normal.
I took it for a ride and noticed that on acceleration it would sputter a bit... It almost sounded like there was a leak in the exhaust somewheres.
so I went thru and made sure that nothing was leaking. I did find 2 leaks and made the repairs.
Well the car still sputtered under acceleration.
Today i had a chance to work on it a bit more. I found 3 sparkplugs that seemed a bit loose... Went thru those. I ended up going thru all of them again to make sure they were all nice and tight. I thought for sure that would resolve the problem and it didn't.
Next, i pulled some codes. It has a H63... right side bank rich.
I've tried to clear the codes several times. I've tried to clear it thru the electronic display as per the instructions I've read and have also tried by disconnecting the battery for longer than 30 seconds. It just won't clear.
Could this oxygen sensor be the cause of this problem?
Or do any of you have any other ideas what this sputtering could be a result of?
The O2 sensor may be an issue but getting real data from a scanner on what the O2 voltage swing is and the fuel trim would be a great help and accurate way of diagnosing.
If you do a search for "engine missing" or "hesitation", etc. on this forum you can find threads that literally go on for hundreds of posts without resolution. I remember at least one guy who basically tore everything apart without ever solving this issue.
I know it is probably not the answer you were hoping for but you just became a member of a not-so-exclusive club.
Good luck with your hunt for the problem.
#1 check your timing... just make sure it is not way off the scale or erratic, which would indicate a distributor problem
#2 check plugs for fouling and spark
#3 use a multimeter to check the tps and the map sensors for smooth transitions and correct voltage output
#4 if you can get your hands on a laser thermometer, you can temp the exhaust ports and look for a lower reading
