Getting oil film on face of flywheel, i pulled flywheel, its not coming from rear main seal, it looks to be coming from input shaft of trans, does the zf have a seal for the input shaft, i cant seem to find any pictures on the net

It has a seal and also an o-ring to seal the guide-tube to the retainer. Both should be pretty easy to source locally if you're doing it yourself. I'd first check the "vent tube" and make sure it's clear!!

O-ring is a 53 X 2 I believe and the seal is a 35 X 50 X 7 - these you could do local BUT there's a gasket required also and that is substantially more difficult to come by. Here's a thread that might be a good read:

Check your clutch fluid level. Wouldn't be surprised if the slave cylinder is leaking....which results in fluid all over the flywheel.

WVZR1 is correct.

On my 94, the Previous owners had +/- 3 clutch replacements due to mis-diagnosis of rear main when it was the tranny input shaft seals.

Two other things to also check.

1. if LT1 - check Oil pressure switch/fuel cut-off connection at back of intake manifold -- leak there can get to clutch.

2. Tranny vent hose -- should be at/near firewall and have a filter on it -- make sure not pinched as would cause tranny build-up of pressure which will exit easiest way --- front seals.

dont know what year your car is , theres a service bulletin #92-304-6A for 1992 5.7 engines. Flint built engines with the letter "V" as the first digit of the engine serial number have an oil leak at the camshaft plug commonly misdiagnosed as a rear main seal leak.

This was the source of amber drops of fluid at the bottom of the bellhousing on mine.

I thought it was rear main seal (big job), but was luckily just clutch slave cylinder
