Sorry it's been awhile more information same problem. I checked out the wires and the grounds all looked good. I just replaced the opti and the issue is still there. Is there somehow or someone that can check my ECM? All the sensors are reporting values that look right. Could the knock sensor produce this kind of effect on the engine or the knock module? This problem is driving me nuts. Thanks again for all your help.

Are you hearing actual pinging and how much knock retard are you getting? If the knock sensor is working you should not hear knock unless the knock os exceeding the max knock retard allowed in the program.

It's an audible ping. The car is running lean BLM is 145 - 160 off idle and the timing is being retarded too. Although I have tested and replaced the plug wires with Delphi could this cause the condition I am having. All this happened after I replaced the wires plugs and fuel filter. I did replace the plugs with TR55 from NGK same issue.

On my l98 the ks worked but had lost sensitivity. I had a lt1 in my garage I pulled that one and compared them with a vom, set on volts (autorangeing MV I think) big difference, much more sensative and faster acting. Installed on car and ping was gone and the car runs great! Good luck with your problem!

Thanks everyone who has contributed to this thread. I found that my new plug wires were breaking down when hot. I checked the resistance when cold and they were in spec. I decided to go back to the beginning and replace the plug wires with AC Delco and now the pinging has stopped and the car runs like it should. Thanks again!!!

Interesting that a breakdown in spark would cause lean. With incomplete burn, intuition makes me think the O2 sensor would see more unburnt fuel...and register as rich.

Obviously, I'd be wrong.

Thanks for the follow-up. Many don't take the time!
