Gauge is currently resting at 18.7 MPG, however that's dating all the way back to May when I reset it. It had to put up with me learning how to drive stick after that before getting to where it is now.

Watching the instantaneous MPG meter, I get around 32 on the highways doing 70 MPH, 22 around town driving like a grandma. Econoboxes indeed...

No secrets...and no outsmarting the engineers involved, either.

The Corvette, to my knowledge, was never advertised as an 'economy' car though it does achieve great gas mileage when maintained and driven properly...as I stated in an earlier post my Vette gets better mileage on the highway than my HHR ever thought about doing...think torque, gearing, and aerodynamics - not just brute HP.

BTW, my '94 auto gets 28, 29 MPG on the same routes I drive in the '96.

Would like to see if anyone has any tips and tricks. As it stands my stock LT1 gets an average MPG of 21 with my weekly work, errands and wherever else i go during the week.

No secrets here. Keep the car in good tune, keep the RPM low, look ahead...drive with common sense. I get fantastic numbers with ALL my vehicles. Click on the 'Vette for more details on that particular cars consumption, right here: TOM"S VEHICLES' CONSUMPTION

Yeah yeah, I know the fuel gauge isn't 100% accurate. But I've averaged about 32 on a trip to the beach at a constant 55mph. The gauge is just a ballpark number, but 32mpg is the best I've ever gotten (Miles divided by gallons to fill up).

I average about 20-22mpg around town or normal driving.

Cruise control makes you look ahead. I average about 27 MPG in my '87
Morgan Hilll CA to Tucson, including the city streets on each end and
a 2000+' altitude gain and the pre-Christmas traffic and Pacheco and
Grapefine passes, and LA freeways.

Cruise also throttles the engine way more than necessary to maintain a constant speed. You can do better, manually. I can, anyway. You'll see that my average is better than 27. NOTE that is an average of ALL my driving; trips, errands, track days, sitting in traffic, everything. Not an average on a road trip. See it HERE. Anyway, on a road trip, I can average over 30 mpg easy, at 75-80 mph w/o using cruise. If I set the cruise, the average goes down.

However if you're a throttle jockey....a "peddle pumper", I.E. you can't drive at a constant speed (and many can't), the CC will help.

It is not imagineering. Good engineers take data and evaluate it to learn and make changes and evaluate it again to confirm if the changes worked. This is similar to a before and after dyno runs or quarter mile runs, etc.

I like to see data like this. By the trend lines you can draw a conclusion that the mpg's do better in the warmer months. On my '94 it would be about 2 or 3 mpg better in the summer too. If there is more detail of driving for each data point, you may see some things show up on the outliers, such as a highway trip might be a high point, etc.

My '94 M6 averaged about 28.5 in the summer and about 26 in the winter. My 100 mile per day commute was nearly all highway so it was heavily biased towards highway cruise mileage.

Love the graphs.
