Horns
Hi all, I am having a problem with horns on a 1991 Coupe. Sometimes they work and sometimes they do not. It does not matter if the car is moving or not or if the car or steering has moved between the horns working and not working. I've switched around the relays under the passenger side of the dash but same probmem. The horns seem to function fine when blowing for the security system. Any ideas?

Complete a continuity check on ALL of your horn wires and connectors to see if you might have a wiring problem. At 25 years, C4 wiring is now old and brittle. You might have a broken or cracked wire inside the insulation that is imposible to see. Check it out....

I had issues with the actual buttons on my 92. Take it apart and check it out. It has been a while, but I remember I had to replace the button part because one of the two little push shafts had broken off the back of each button. If one breaks off, the horn will still work, but is sloppy. The buttons pop out real easy. It looks like the 91 and 92 have similar buttons.

In my case (93) the turn signal cancellation cam has a slotted connector for the horn wire which is a spring loaded 'twist and turn' wire connector into the slotted connector on the turn signal cam.
The plastic slot had broken off and the horn wire would no longer stay in the turn signal cancellation cam.
I had to replace the turn signal cancellation cam ($15 part).
The 95-96 horns are totally different, but I bet my 93 is like your 91.
Whatever you do, dont lose the copper? flat rectangle horn contacts behind the horn buttons. These are impossible to replace (no longer avail) and you will likely have to get into a salvage yard corvette to replace them if you lose them!

This happened to me. Mine went airborne when I pulled the buttons, but found them in the carpet. Seems like I replaced the cam as well. Pulling the buttons with the wheel tilted up helps.

What is the best way to pop them off? I don't want to risk breaking/losing anything especially if the copper contacts are irreplacable.

two small screwdrivers (small screwdrivers! ) and they buttons should pop right off.
If it seems you have to 'force it', move the screwdriver to a different point on the button.
