I have a '92 that started out having a brief miss/studder at steady throttle, but not under acceleration. Replaced the plug wires, and now that problem has almost disappeared, but now at idle (engine at running temperature) it runs very rough, especially in gear sitting at a stop light etc. When cold (at startup), it doesn't miss at all. Could it be a bad oxygen sensor, and if so, how many does a '92 LT1 have? Thanks.
My check engine light finally did come on but I haven't gotten it to my mechanic yet to decipher the code. It has a relatively new opti-spark, new plugs, new wires, new injectors, and a relatively new TPS. Not much left to go bad but the O2 sensor(s), I hope.
Don't mean to jump the gun but the symptoms do sound like a bad opti. Especially when it's OK cold and then runs bad at temperature. Is the opti an
AC delco (OEM) or a copy of foreign made. Just a thought.
Does it kick or buck under accelleration when hot in hi gear?
It may set no code especially if the cap is going bad.
Don't know if the the opti is OEM or not, but it is fairly new. Will have to check on that. My mechanic will scan it for free, as opposed to $100 down at the GM dealership. It doesn't miss a beat under any level of acceleration, not matter how hard or easy.
I appreciate all of the responses. It turned out to be one of the spark plug wires not being on tight. Ever since it was popped into place, she hasn't missed a beat!!
Good find, that actually happened to me a few weeks after I did an opti also. I just had a miss to but did not have any other problems. I thought that was strange the way it backed out as I had checked everything initially so well.
