Guys: I just completed a top end job due to a leaking rear china wall. I decided to have the base ported by Darrin, add new injectors (FIC!), add some roller tip rockers (1.6), new oil pressure sender (proper oil press readings now), and seal it up properly. Anyway, it runs great and I am definitely feeling some extra HP. Everything is working well but I do have a code 32 when cold. It disappears when you start it while warm...until today. I guess the EGR temp sensor might be bad, correct? can you guys weigh and and let me know what you would look at? I did clean that sensor tip in the EGR tube coming off the passenger header. What are your thoughts? Thanks!
There have to be a handful of things out of adjustment for a 32 to set...and it takes all this happening for 4 minutes for the ECM to set a 32...including coolant temps over 175 degrees.
so,
I'd check the TPS, make sure thats right, make sure the coolant temp sensor is plugged in right and the wire is good, and make sure the EGR time/temp switch wire is not grounding on something in behind the engine along the firewall.
That switch was not available for a long while but in the past year they are back in the aftermarket world. if you need one there are also F body sources from what I'm told.
The ECM sets error code 32 under two conditions (why they didn't make it different codes is beyond me).
If the EGR temperature switch is closed (or the wiring shorted to ground) at startup it will set code 32. This sounds like your problem. Sometimes you can "tune" the sensor by unscrewing the terminal where the wire attaches. I've seen the procedure in several places, but don't have a link.
The other way to get error code 32 is when the ECM commands EGR and the temperature switch does NOT go to ground (meaning something is wrong somewhere in the EGR system). You'll typically get this one as you're cruising along and the SES light just comes on for no apparent reason. It will go away if you shut off the engine and then restart.
