ASR problem
I almost always drive with the ASR turned off because I feel it is safer then having an over eager traction control kick in at the wrong time. Here is the problem. At a familiar intersection, I accelerate from a stop and turn left on to a four lane road with no cars around me (and no curbs). I know that at the apex of the turn there is a bump in the road. On three separate occasions, I decided to get on the throttle a little at the apex to induce a little oversteer, nothing that would get me in trouble, but something a little fun. Well the car almost dies on me, and I am thrown forward. When this happened I looked at the warning lights. I saw the ASR Active, the Service ASR, the ABS Active, and the Service ABS light up. Then they all went off, but now my ASR was back on even though I had turned it off before all this happened. Luckily I was only doing about 20 mph when this happened with no one behind me.
I am wondering if I have a loose wire somewhere, or if the ASR will kick on even if turned off if it detects a vertical acceleration (bump), horizontal acceleration, and different wheel speeds. Or did I hit the bump hard enough to jar the ASR toggle switch to the on position. If I know how the control logic works and have some wiring diagrams, I should be able to trace the problem down. I don’t get any service codes when I probe the ALDL.
Thanks
:)
I just can't figure out why the ASR would kick on when it is turned off. I know the switch works, since I can spin when launching. Something is not right since the service ASR and service ABS lights come on briefly.
