the drivers side wiper on my car has no resistance and it isnt pushing against my windshield anymore. it kind of just hovers over it and doesnt push the water out of the way, so its virtually useless. ive been leaning over the to the passenger side when it rains. i thought maybe the spring went bad but i cant even get that thing to budge. has anybody had this happen before? i think i need to replace the whole arm. i dont even see how it comes off. looks like i have to take the wiper motor out. car's an 89 btw.

Wiper arms come off the same as any other car. Pry it off the shaft. There is a guy in the area trying to sell his new OEM wiper arms in the area on craigslist all winter. Maybe he'll ship to you. http://albany.craigslist.org/pts/3635577931.html

There is a spring loaded retainer feature that keeps the wiper arm attached to the shaft. Find it, love it, live it, but don't go to prying on anything until you understand what you are prying on!
If you use a flat blade screwdriver on the spring side of the arm you can release the retainer "latch" and pry the arm off at the same time and impress any bystanders who might be lurking!
