Default help needed 85 ECM...fried?

Sorry guys need help with my 85 870.I'm new here.I have an Ostrich 2 trying to put it into my ECM i've probably fried something.

questions:

1) i've removed my stock eprom carrier with key in off. Then i realized that ECM is always hot becouse of storing codes.

Can i have fried something ?becouse, after trying to put again the eprom, ECM sets a series of codes, don't remember what, but a minimum of 4 codes.

Obviously emulation with the Ostrich was unpossible. I was using the stock HLH 85 bin ,instead of my actual Hypertech. The car runs bad with hesitation.Emulation was ok since tunerpro rt was working fine, uploaded bin fle to emulator with succes, but engine was revving bad. When i back to eprom carrier and put it again i was expecting the car running as usually do...nothing.

Again do i need to disconnect the battery before attemp to take off the eprom?

Yes, definitely disconnect the battery before messing with the ECM. Since it also learns stuff you should also disconnect the battery after significant tuning changes to reset the learned tables.

That being said the PCM is more resilient than some think so it is unlikely (though not impossible) you damaged it. Make sure there are no bent pins etc. If the car runs the same with the original PROM as it does with the Ostrich running HLH then the PROM is probably fine and I would start looking at other things. What codes are setting?

The ECM will not be fried by removing the chip with the key off. I have tuned at least a 1000 GM chipped cars and have never disconnected the battery or computer to remove the chip. I wait for the burn-off cycle to be complete and then I remove the chip.

thanks guys for your reply,in fact the ECM isn't that fragile thing...both of you are right:

no problem with the battery...you can do it just with key off ( Bjankuski)

looking at the prom pins how they was contacting the socket i found one was lightly bent inside (socket pin)...incredible you can barely see it, just an hair...even less, using a needle i forced it out... bam the car fired up perfect and run fine...another lesson learned, thanks guys
...Jsiddal you was right too...bent pin...
