Default I hate Crane Cams

I read every bit of f*cking literature they sent me, I read everything in the catalog around the cam-shaft. Not once did they mention that I need a stock oil pump.

Now that my cam-shaft is an expensive piece of scrap metal, most of the whole godd*mned topend has to come apart to replace it.

Never again will I order from them!

isn't it always been general knowledge that you speak with a cam manf. about your engine combo before you buy there product? true the oil pump thing is odd but aren't most all SBC oil pumps the same size?

So what was the conflict with the stock oil pump? Are you talking about high volume vs stock volume oil pump or something else?

Maybe you'll feel better (or just vindicated) if you explain it to us.

This is something that I am not quite certain of myself. To find information, I've had to look everywhere. The cam-shaft just looked too nice when I got it, and I didn't do all of the research I should, other than their claims that it would work fine in my application.

After it ate(completely rounded off) the first bronze distributor gear, I called them up, and they told me it was the added pressure(required force to spin it) from my aftermarket(Melling) high volume oil pump, and I could just replace the gear and install a stock oil pump.

Before reinstalling the distributor, I ran the oil pump, and I'm getting adequate flow down the distributor hole.

I replaced the gear and pump, then after a brief testing period, I removed the distributor, only to find more wear. I called Crane just now, and this time the person on the line claimed that the cam-shaft gear is destroyed, and should be returned for a warrantee replacement.

I've just found, in a completely obscure place, a claim by Crane that this cam-shaft does not require a bronze gear. I will be installing a steel or cast gear soon, as well as the high-volume oil pump, and run it until it breaks again, since I now know it is under warrantee.

My problem is not with their manufacturing, as that is immaculate, but their complete lack of customer service, accurate information, and all of the headaches they've caused me trying to fix this.
