Hmmm.. I've been talking to Carrol's Rod & Racecraft about going to a 9". I'm about [ ] this far from pulling the trigger. I'm so F'N sick of rebuilding the rear. Just snapped another spindle at the first race of the season.

I was there a few years ago. Averaged 2 or 3 breaks a year. You'll like the straight axle.

Mine is already in the shop getting a 9". Sold my D44 and my car is apart-Looking forward to seeing what COPO comes out with and the cost.
My goal is still have it sit low (as it is now) and handle well with a watts linkage or wishbone locator. Also narrowed it about 6" for deep dish rims.
I had a trick aftermarket dana 44 setup in my car 7 years ago before going to a straight axle, i even went as far as making a set of 300m outer spindles . Don't miss those days, alot of money i could have spent wisely.

This is not a Dana 44 and not ever one wants a straight axle

I understand , but the weakest link is gonna be you outer stub axles .. Dana 44 will leave in most of those guys applications . I've been in 1.3s 60 foot on low 9s on mine for years.. And as far as gearing for the Dana 44 , you have all the options one would need for a street strip setup . Good Luck
COPO,
Nice meeting and talking with you at Carlisle this weekend.
The housing casting you showed me looked quite impressive.
I have no doubt your new IRS rear end solution will be bullet proof and cure the weak link Dana 44 and outer spindle breakage problems many of us C4 guys have suffered through over the years.
Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
Thank you very much for your dedication to improving the C4 drive train.
I am interested, and seriously considering a straight axle 9". If I can make the IRS work I am on board, but it must be able to handle 1000 HP.
I have become very interested in building an all out 615 CID BBC alum engine. I want to run drag week in the next few years in the street race catagory which has a 8.50 min ET limit. To run the class I need a stock style rear end (Must be IRS). I was debating another class which allows straight axle rear ends but it is not as interesting to me.

Glad to meet you. Sorry I didn't make it back upon the hill.

I am weighing all options.
Cool
Just found out that Timken is no longer going to be making the c4 bearing. Even the s-10 front 4x4 front bearing which is the same except for the thickness of the bolt threads will not be made. Which leaves the autozone junk and such, if anyone has ever used one, brand new out of the box and they are hard to turn and don't last.
As we talk around the shop.... The only option is to fit a c6/zr1 bearing. Just another item to put in the to do bucket.
I'm trying my best to keep the c4 alive!!
As far as I know on the rear... The last changes have been made and we will have a run of about 50. Then I will have some pics..
