I was not able to pull the codes using the Flashing "SES" method. I pull the codes by grounding the A & G terminal on the ALCL. The codes I did get are C 41, H 41 and H 72. I am thinking my ECM is Bad. The car idles great but the "SES" stays on and the ASR light is on also. But when you give it some gas she misfire and there is a rich fuel smell. Help guys, Please.

 

The "C" preceding the fault code number denotes a current fault code. A "H" preceding the fault code number denotes a history fault code.

I don't know which one of the 6 diagnostic circuits you tested and can't tell you how to manually extract them (I use an analyzer), but I can tell you what those codes mean in the different circuits.

Cavity B ECM LT-1:
41 Ignition Control circuit (Open or shorted circuit)
72 Gear selection switch circuit

Cavity B LT-5
41 Cylinder select error (Fauylty or incorrect MEM CAL)
72 none

Cavity C FX-3 Selective Ride Control
41 Selective ride control switch short circuit to B positive
72 none

Cavity G CCM Fault Codes
41 Loss of ECM serial data communications
72 LCD Dimming output circuit open or shorted to ground

Cavity G ECM Fault Codes
41 Electronic spark timing fault (Open or shorted)
72 Gear selector switch circuit

Cavity G ABS/ASR
41 RF Valve solenoid fault
72 Serial data link fault

Cavity K SIR
41/42 Deployment loop energy reserve voltage fault
72 none


Since I don't know exactly where your codes were drawn from I can only tell you one more thing. When my 92 LT1 was throwing 41 and 72, and the ASR light would come on the SYS light also flashed. The fix for me was as you suggest...a new ECM. Got mine from MAD for $99.

 

Shouldn't you be jumping the "A" and "B" terminals?
