As you can see in the inserted image I have custom powder coated stock valve covers that I have gutted to fit over my 1.6 aluminum roller rockers. I have also powder coated my superram to match as well. I have run the motor for less than 1000 miles before installing the superram without any trouble.
Am I going to have any problems running them or do I need to switch to tall valve covers? Will the short valve covers cause issues with lubrication? Is there any danger of damage under high speed or power? Any advice?
I ran ProMagnum 1.6:1s under re-painted OEM valve covers in my '88 with never a problem in 10 years of 1/4 mile fun, not even with 6,000rpm shift points.
I had narrowed the bolt posts and cut off the drip tabs for clearance.
I used the stock covers from my 85 when I built my ZZ4 with the LP74211 cam. This cam has over a .530 lift with 1.6 roller rockers. I did sand off the upper corner on the RR at a 45 to take off about 1/8" to clear the covers. I also added the the tallest VC gaskets that I could find. The exhaust RR was just kissing the cover with a standard gasket and before I sanded off the corners of the RR. Not a problem after that. I was also running the SuperRam like you.
Very nice setup. Looks just like mine without the blue
I had the valve covers powder coated first.I am glad to hear I do not have to get rid of them. Then when I got the Superram I had to have it done as well. Eventually the plan is to have the car painted White with a candy blue grand spot stripe to match the motor.
