Default am I pulling the right cable?(hatch)

So, 84' project car
hatch elec release no werkie..
I read that there's this cool manual cable to yank on & release it..
I did find a cable of some sorts under the roll-up thingy, in the center.
But, yanking on it did nothing..
Could it be that the hatch can get "stuck" from sitting?

Rich
ps. pls don't be intimidated by my highly technical jargon here lads..

there is a special tool to use for broken release cables. cheaper to take it to a shop and have them do it than buying the tool. Once open, install "emergency" release cables..can be done easy and cheap by you.New cables are about 20 bucks or so. I am in the middle of replacing mine now. The biggest pain is the grommet that goes into the firewall. I am sure others will chime in with their homemade tool to open a stuck hood.

Intimidation be damned...... a vette owner is in need of assistance.

Seems like you may have located the hatch manual release cord. By folding over the carpeting, you might be able to follow that cord right to the release mechanism, and determine if the hatch is stuck, or if the cord is not connected. Or, the release mechanism may just be in need of a shot of PB Blaster.

ghoastrider1, I think ye misunderstood: it was the rear hatch that is eluding me..
hood is just fine, opening anyway.
Thanks for the pointers fellas, I'll keep plugging/pulling away!

The correct cable to yank will look and feel a bit like a guitar string. Pull it to the passenger side of the car.

Have somebody push down on the rear of the hatch (in the center, just in front of the gas door) while you pull on the cable. Unless there is something wrong with the latch, it should pop open.
