My '86 is cold natured too. Does yours warm up and smooth out? Mine does, so I did all
the normal tune-up stuff and pretty much gave up. I warm it up a minute or so before i
drive off on the first trip of the day.
The throttleblade screw is capped at the factory for a reason. Everyone thinks they can tune efi by adjusting this screw. The correlation between the throttleblade, and the IAC is important. While adjusting this screw will make a temporary difference, idle is set in the programming, period.
Just turning the screw is not the way to tune the car, and it should be done correctly.
I found that after 26 years or so my car was dying at stops. I fixed it by doing the minimum idle adjustment. I thought I would never have to do this, but apparently the throttle body linkage bends over time or the screw wears the linkage and affects the position of the throttle blades.
you also might try spraying carb cleaner thru the thing. Those throttle blades get really dirty and may not be closing like they should. Sprayed mine and it helped, couldn't believe all the build up.
