Default Went the track, something wrong here?

Ok I went to the track about a month ago. I ran a 13.822 @ 99.25 MPH with a 2.059 60ft. Now tonight, I went to race this mustang cobra, first run 14.065 @ 99.74 MPH with a 2.052 60ft. Second run 14.196 @ 98.18 with a 2.079 60ft. Third run 14.048 @ 97.12 with a 2.014 60ft. Does it seem weird that my MPH decreased every run? My times didn't? Is there anything wrong with my car? I don't get this. I know the better 60ft. you get usually the lower MPH you get, but there wasn't to much of a difference with the 60ft. times and the MPH. I know I am running slower then before ( 1 month ago ) because it was hot and humid. I just don't understand, I've never been any slower then 99 MPH, my best MPH before was 101! Can someone please help me here????? Thanks.

Heat & Humidity play tricks with a car's power. Was your engine/coolant temp also hotter as you did each run? Did you open the hood and let the car cool down while waiting?

It is possible that the air conditions changed quite a bit while you were there.

Last week, I was running at 100 mph in the early stages, later in the day, I was at 99 mph.

Yeah, heat can definitely do a number (ha) on your quarter mile times. At the Cruise-In III, I was running consistent 14.3-14.4 runs until about noon. When I started racing again at around 1, I barely ever cracked 14.5.

I cooled my car down with bags of ice, on the plenum and runners. My temp. was always nice and cold, but I could see my MPH going down somewhat, but 3 MPH!

:yesnod: The ambient temps play a huge role in how your car runs. Heat will slow you down some, add in some high humidity and it slows even more. My 87 runs between 97mph and 100mph depending on wx conditions.

My brother (Tpivette89) went too, and his times were .2 tenths slowr but his MPH were only 1 less if that. Mine were 3! and also it ws getting late at night so it got cold and my MPH still went down!

Your trap speed depends mostly on temp & baro, with a little from RH.

The other factor is heat soak, amount of fuel, and any extra weight.

I always weigh the car at Raceway Park and compute crank HP from the trap speed. I use equations (on my site) to normalize both trap speed and ET for baro and temp. Only then can I make valid comparisons from week to week. Even then my trap speed (i.e. HP) varies a little with coolant temp.

I think it was just the heat. Your MPH was pretty close so I don't think there is anything wrong with the car. By the way, did you beat the Cobra?

Yeah I did beat the cobra. He was talkign all kinds of poopie and then when he got down to the track, I got right behind him. He ran a 14.6 then I think a 14.3. But that is the best he is going to get, he doesn't have a clue how to drive stick. When i beat him, he admitted that both my car and my bros were bad butt! :yesnod:
